As the district continues to work toward better solutions to meet the needs of all MPS students and manage ongoing budget challenges, they have released the information they have gathered from the Phase One Boundary Study, which was presented at the Nov. 23 school board retreat. The school district will follow with the Phase Two findings at the Dec. 12 school board meeting. This includes proposed changes to current magnet programming and all K-8 modeled schools.

When Phase One was presented it seemed to show Lake Harriet Community School continuing with the same grade configuration. Phase Two presents a model in which there are no K-8 schools; only K-5 elementary, 6-8 middle and 9-12 high schools. We have a task force within our Site Council that is working to stay on top of the information coming from the district and find the best ways to advocate on behalf of LHCS families. We will reach out to the community regarding advocacy opportunities at the appropriate time(s). We plan to host an information and perspectives sharing event in the near future as the district will be gathering feedback from community members throughout January and February.  In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more about the district's objectives, findings from the boundary study, or the timeline for the CDD you are welcome to attend the Site Council Meeting on December 17th in the Upper Campus Media Center at 5PM. gathering feedback from community members throughout January and February. In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more about the district's objectives, findings from the boundary study or the timeline for the CDD, you are welcome to attend the Site Council Meeting on Dec. 17 in the Upper Campus Media Center at 5 pm.
