Our PTA Membership Chair caught up with Carol Chase, Physical Education teacher at Lake Harriet Lower.

What is your role at LHCS and how long have you been with the school?
Wow, I have been at Lake Harriet Lower (formerly called Audubon) since 1989. That is 32 years! This has been my home away from home for a long time.

How would you like students to address you?
I have been Ms. Chase to students for my whole career. That sounds good to me.

Please share a little about yourself:
I am a life-long resident of Mpls. I was a MPS student, and am a proud graduate of Patrick Henry High School. I received my Bachelor in Teaching from Augsburg College but also attended The Lutheran Bible Institute in Issaquah, WA for 2 years, earning a Cert. in Biblical Studies. I am single but have always had cats. My current 2 cats are Summit and Glacier, whose names reflect my love of the mountains and hiking. I love eating so it’s hard to choose a favorite food but I will say that my favorite snack is ice cream. It’s a good thing I’m active!

What do you love about working with kids?
One thing I love about teaching is seeing students’ faces light up when they learn and do a skill correctly and realize that they can do it. And I love seeing kids excited about physical activity.

How has the PTA supported you?
Our Lake Harriet PTA has been so wonderful! They have supported me whenever I’ve needed something. For years, the PTA has been supporting me with grant money for my ALPhA program, as well as purchasing new mats for me and supplying funds annually for new supplies. I am very grateful for the generosity of our PTA.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests outside of the classroom?
As I mentioned, I love hiking, especially in the mountains. I have climbed Mt. Rainier and Mt. Kilimanjaro, and many mountains in CO. I also enjoy relaxing walks around the neighborhood. I like dancing, biking, kayaking, canoeing, and camping. Another interest all my life has been music. I sing, play guitar and piano, and the tin whistle.
