English and Language Arts

Hi, my name is Deborah Hansen and I’ve been teaching 8th grade Language Arts and Reading at Anwatin Middle School for the past four years.  I earned my teaching degree from Metropolitan State University and my Reading licensure from The University of Minnesota.  I have two children, a 20 -year old son, and a 17 year-old daughter, both graduates of Lake Harriet Community School.  My husband and I have lived in the Linden Hills neighborhood for almost 30 years.  I’m very excited to work with your students and the wonderful staff at Lake Harriet.

Math

Joe Lazur was an actuary for 22 years before he decided to change careers last year and teach math in the Minneapolis School District. Joe has a MS in mathematics from the University of Michigan and he will receive his Minnesota 5th to 12th grade math teaching license next month. He has spent the past year in a year-long residency program co-teaching two IB math classes at Highland Park Senior High. For the past three years Joe has also served as the Lake Harriet MathCounts coach. Joe lives in Linden Hills and has been a Lake Harriet parent for the past 12 years. He is very excited to join the teaching team at Lake Harriet in August and to work with the seventh and eighth grade students in the school.
