We are excited to announce our first STEAM Options Day at the Lower Campus on May 1, 2013 from 2:00 to 3:45. You may ask, “What is STEAM and how will that promote learning?”
As you may know, the Lake Harriet mission statement says that our school has a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) focus. Many proponents of STEM have added the integration of Arts to STEM, making the acronym STEAM.
Our STEAM Options Day will include an afternoon with a variety of great STEAM classes for all students to choose from. Some of the options will be: snakes, watershed, chemistry, Zumba, art, music, technology, bookmaking, etc. In the next week or two, the students will be asked for their top choices which will be used to place them into one of the classes. Each class will remain at twenty six students, so students may not get their first choice. Minneapolis Kids will participate as well.
Many thanks to Sue Shuff and Tamera Jurgens! Our STEAM Options Day has been spearheaded by Mrs. Sue Shuff, one of our first grade teachers. She planned this great day. And with the help of second grade teacher, Mrs. Tamera Jurgens, they have found several community members and parents to provide these fun and meaningful classes for our students.
