Tryouts this weekend were a huge success. Thank you to all who participated. For those of you who were not in attendance for the parent meetings, I am taking this opportunity to communicate the process for what to expect as next steps.
We had a record turn out this year. Over 230 kids came out for basketball, and we could not be more excited at the level of talent that we saw in the gym on Friday and Saturday.
The Mpls Lakers Team Formation Committee spent quite a bit of time yesterday going through the evaluations from tryouts and getting things organized. At this time, we are going to have call backs for ONLY 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Boys teams. A communication on this went out earlier today, and we received feedback that some people were not sure if they should attend or not, so please accept our sincere apologies if this was not clear.
If you have a son in one of these age groups, please plan to bring them to call backs at MCTC on Wednesday evening. Time slots are as follows:
6-7pm for 6th graders
7-8pm for 7th graders
8-9pm for 8th graders
Check in 15 minutes early to get assigned numbers pinned on. At MCTC.
NOTE: ALL boys for these grades are being called back. In years past, we called back some and not others, which resulted in some confusion and anxiety among the kids. In an effort to eliminate that, we are simply inviting all players in these grades to come back for a second round of evaluations. Again, this is so we can get an additional look at the kids, and make sure that we place players on the best teams for their skill level.
After we complete this session, the team formation committee will meet to finalize the recommendations for the Lakers Board to vote on, per our association bylaws. Our next board meeting is scheduled for one week from today (Monday, Sept 23rd). That is when all of our teams will be finalized and approved. It is our goal to have team formation communications go out by Wednesday Sept 25th. The Lakers Board appreciates your patience as we work through this process.
If your child has a conflict and cannot attend the callback session on Wednesday evening, please let us know and we will make a note in that player's file. (This does NOT mean that they wont be considered for a team, if they cannot attend.) If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. We will do our very best to be prompt in our responses.
