Dear Families of Lake Harriet Community School:

I am writing to inform you of a change in leadership at your school. Earlier this year, we announced that Dr. Aaron Drevlow would fulfill Ms. Mary Ryncheck’s open post at Lake Harriet Community School beginning in the 2013-2014 school year. Since that announcement, Dr. Drevlow has withdrawn his name from the candidate pool and will no longer serve as principal of Lake Harriet Community School. I am pleased to share with you that we have now selected Mr. Walter J. Schleisman as the leader who will fulfill Ms. Ryncheck’s position. Mr. Schleisman will join Jan Parrish and Merry Tilleson as the administrative team assigned to the K-8 school.

Mr. Schleisman is currently an assistant principal at Folwell School, Performing Arts Magnet, where he has served since 2011. In his over 10 years of experience in education, he has worked as a music teacher, a fine arts coordinator and an administrative leader helping to ensure that all students and families are engaged, welcomed and learning. He has also worked internationally and in the Twin Cities as a teacher.

Mr. Schleisman earned his principal’s license from the University of Minnesota. He received a Master of Education degree at the University of Minnesota and a double Bachelor of Arts degree focusing on music and economics and management at Beloit College.

“I am honored to be chosen as the principal to follow Ms. Ryncheck,” said Mr. Schleisman of his new position. “I look forward to meeting with the staff, families and community to build positive relationships that will continue the tradition of strong academics and parental involvement.”

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Schleisman to Lake Harriet Community School. Sincerely,

Theresa Battle
Associate Superintendent
