Did your Lower Campus student come home last Thursday wanting to book a trip to the tropics? If so, the “Dive into Reading” 2013 Read-a-Thon is to blame! The kickoff ceremony was a blast! We had everything from bubbles, the sun, dolphins, conga lines, a real LIVE 18 piece steel drum band, and the principal and Read-a-Thon Chair in scuba gear. By now, your diver(s) are already on day five of our month long underwater reading adventure! Read-a-Thon packets were sent home on January 31st with your K – 5 student(s). Please take a moment to review the packet and make note of the important dates. Last year, our reading goal was 175,000 at home reading minutes. Our divers blew that out of the water and read an amazing 374,000 minutes! This year the goal is 375,000 minutes. Divers also collected $22,000 in pledge money for the LHCS PTA. Think we can raise $25,000 this year? Of course we can! Didn’t receive your packet or can’t find it? No worries. Click here for the Read-a-Thon page, http://lakeharriet.mpls.k12.mn.us/rat.

K - 5 students, teachers, and staff are invited to dress up as their favorite literary character on Friday, February 8th. Prizes will be given out to the best costumes! Who will you be? Laura Ingalls Wilder, Miss Frizzle, Jack or Annie, Cat in the Hat, Harry Potter? The possibilities are endless! The school asks that the costumes be safe and fun. Students should leave masks and violent type costumes/accessories at home.
