GEMS/GISE programs use a Project-Based Learning, to help students become better engaged. A project motivates students to gain knowledge, and they remember it longer. Projects give students the chance to apply the skills they learn in school to personally relevant and real-world situations. Students also learns skills in PBL, such as how to think critically and solve problems. These skills will help students succeed in the future, both in school and in today’s work world.

This winter Lake Harriet Lower will be offering the Simple Machines and Mechanisms course. In this course, students will have the opportunity to design and engineer your own STEMspiration projects! The Explore Projects include STEM learning through constructing and redesigning a tilting maze, bird feeder, musical instrument, parachutes, and large structures. In STEM Explorer you will create, discover, and innovate! (Content focus: Engineering and Science)

This course is for students in Grades K-1. It will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5. Class size will be 12 - 15. Students will learn about math and science through Project-Based Learning. It will start on January 12, 2021.

This highly engaging STEM course will be available through distance learning. Courses will be taught live online through a hands-on project-based approach exploring Science, Technology, Engineering and Math!

All course supplies and materials are provided. You will be able to pick materials up at school in the entryway after winter break.
