Dear MPS families and Minneapolis community members,

We are deeply grateful to the voters of Minneapolis who demonstrated their commitment to our students, schools and community by renewing the school referendum on Election Day.

We use referendum funding to manage class sizes and provide supportive services and activities for students. In the 2016-2017 school year, referendum revenue accounts for 13% of our budget and funds more than 750 positions. We rely on this revenue, as well as state and federal funding and grants, to provide high- quality educational programs in Minneapolis.

By renewing the referendum authorization for nine years, voters have made a long-term investment in our students and in their community.

We are committed to using these resources in the most effective way to continually improve student achievement.
