Have you heard of the dreaded "summer slide?" It happens over the summer when students lose skills they worked so hard for during the school year because they aren't practicing those skills.

But don't worry, there's an easy way to offset this phenomenon in reading ...READ! Lake Harriet Summer 6 Reading Challenge (for Upper Campus): We've challenged all incoming 4th-8th graders to read at least 6 books over the summer.

The only criteria is that the books should be ones that your kid WANTS to read and are roughly at his/ her reading level. Click here for the Summer 6 Reading form or email Gretchen Lieving with any questions. Students should fill out the front with books they read over the summer and return the form in the fall. There will be small rewards plus the personal satisfaction of reading some awesome books. We also encourage you to visit www.hclib.org for book recommendations, free special events and public library locations. Remember, libraries & bookstores are fun places to visit and air-conditioned!
