August 8, 2014

Dear 4th and 5th grade student and your family:

Welcome to the 2014-15 school year!  We are excited for you to come and we look forward to seeing all of you.  The teachers are ready to challenge you and we are all here to help you to have a great school year.

At the bottom of this letter, you will see your teacher and classroom listed.   When you come to school this year you will notice a few new things at Lake Harriet Upper. Mr. Marchetti is moving to 5th grade, we have a new band/orchestra teacher named Mr. Needleman and we will have a new Assistant Principal.  Something you might not notice is that we will also have a new heating system installed.

Be sure to plan on coming to the Grades Four & Five Curriculum Night/Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, August 20th.  This is your chance to sign up for conferences in your child’s classroom and to learn more about the academics in grades 4 and 5.  Instructions for the night are as follows:  4th graders should go to the gym from 5:00 – 5:30 for a curriculum information session, then to your assigned classroom from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. to meet your teacher. From 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. 4th graders can go to the playground for ice cream and to meet other students.  Our 5th graders should start in their assigned classroom from 5:00 – 5:30 to meet your teacher, and then head to the gym from 5:30 – 6:00 for a curriculum information session.  From 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. 5th graders can go to the playground for ice cream and to meet other students.

We want you to know that our school is very full and we do have a waiting list.  We have tried to place as many of our neighborhood students as possible. If you are not attending Lake Harriet Upper this year, please let us know immediately so we can move students off the waiting list.

See you soon!
