Welcome to our second semester. It is hard to believe how fast the year is going. We are very excited about the great things happening here at Upper Campus. Here is just a small sample of some of the events coming up in the third quarter:
· Our second quarter celebration happened last Friday. At this short assembly we highlighted students who have a skill in athletics, dance, or any type of movement. This was also a day of silence in support of those children in the world who lack the power to speak up for themselves.
· A selection of Middle Grades rock bands, choirs, the staff band and the Strolling Clones (my band) will be playing at Famous Dave’s January 30 from 3:00 – 7:00.
· On February 8 we will be having a National African American Parent Involvement Day assembly. This assembly will feature a speaker who will relate her personal experiences with the Civil Rights Movement, a planned spoken word performance from a former student, and music from the choir.
· Mr. DePerry will be taking nominated 6th -8th graders on the annual Barnebirke cross country ski trip February 18 & 19.
· The 4th grade will be having a day-long kindness retreat in our gym with Youth Frontiers on March 3.
· Looking forward to second semester, the 6th graders will be going on an Environmental Education and Team Building retreat to Camp St. Croix on April 13, 14 and 15.
The students have been doing an excellent job of creating a positive and focused school environment this year. The student leaders have supported tours, set-up technology at events, greeted families at events, are visiting homerooms to make announcements once a week, and have been working on creating a welcoming climate for all students. We are all expecting a fantastic second semester.
