Allergy Aware School Program
allergy

Minneapolis has an "Allergy Aware" policy for students with food allergies.  Both Upper and Lower lunchrooms have "Allergy Aware" tables.  Parents with students who are highly allergic to various foods MAY want their child to sit at this table, it is not mandatory.  Lunch aids are aware of the students with allergies.  Friends of students who sit at the "Allergy Aware" table may not have food in their lunch that contain any of the allergens.   When sitting at this table, students may be asked to wash their hands before eating.  Specific measures are taken to prevent cross contamination when cleaning this table.

  • If your child has a life threatening allergy, contact the licensed school nurse.  An Emergency Health Plan will be created that meets the needs of your child. This will be made in conjunction with you, your child's physician and the licensed school nurse. An Anaphylaxis Action Plan, created by Children's Physician's Network, is available for your use if desired. Click here for this template. Your physican may choose to use this plan for your child's emergency care plan.
Special Dietary Needs:

For Special Dietary Needs, visit Nutrition Services on Minneapolis' main website.   Click here for the medical statement document needed for dietary changes.

MPS Culinary & Wellness Services will provide lactose-reduced milk, such as Lactaid, for children with lactose intolerance. A parent or guardian must make this request in writing by completing and signing the Request for Lactose Free Milk.

MPS is peanut & tree nut aware meaning there are NO peanuts or tree nuts purchased or served for school meals. Some prepackage foods served for meals or snacks may be processed in a facility that processes peanuts or tree nuts, but the item served does not contain peanuts or tree nuts. It is helpful, but not required to complete a Special Diet Statement for a student with a peanut and/or tree nut allergy.
