Walter Schleisman

Hello my name is Walter Schleisman. I am honored to be Principal of the Upper School.  Before coming to LHCS I served as the Fine Arts Coordinator at Ramsey and was a graduate of the Minneapolis Public Schools Principal's Academy.  After one year as the Fine Arts Coordinator, I was promoted to Assistant Principal focusing on grades 5-8.  When Ramsey moved to Folwell I was part of the transition team that coordinated the move.  I continued as the Assistant Principal of Folwell for the 2012-2013 school year.

Before joining Minneapolis Public Schools I spent 9 years as the Band and General Music teacher at Crosswinds Arts and Science school, an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program arts magnet school serving St. Paul and the East Metro suburbs.  While there I served on the task force that brought the IB program to Crosswinds and expanded the school from grades 6-8 to grades 6-10.  My first job as an educator was in Salzburg, Austria at a very small boarding school where I taught music, including the IB course, and middle school social studies.

I have lived in Minneapolis for over twenty years now and, while I live just outside of the LHCS attendance area, I feel very connected to this neighborhood.

I am so pleased to be part of the Lake Harriet Community School and look forward to a great year.  Please feel free to contact me at any time: e-mail walter.schleisman@mpls.k12.mn.us or 612-668-3310. Cell phone: 612-210-3667.
