Volunteering at Lake Harriet

Each year, hundreds of parents and community volunteers donate their time and talents to Lake Harriet Community School. Parent involvement is a critical component that drives LHCS excellence. We encourage and need all families to get involved in their child's education through volunteering.

If you are a parent, guardian, grandparent, or community member and would like to volunteer at Lake Harriet, please fill out the volunteer interest form. We'll communicate with you about ways to be involved in the school. There are several positions currently available - please review and sign up!

If you're interested in volunteering in the school, you must submit an online volunteer form. Please note the online software doesn't encrypt the data. The Volunteer Form is kept on file for nine years - from kindergarten through eighth grade for your first child. If you have previously filled it out, you do not need to fill it out again unless you have moved or changed names.

Background Checks

Some volunteer roles require a background check. For example, your volunteer role may result in you being alone with children (chaperoning field trips, tutoring, etc.), or unsupervised by a teacher. For those circumstances, please complete the Volunteer Background Check Request Form

After submitting the form, you will receive an email with the subject "Action Request" within 1-3 business days with directions to complete your background check. You must respond to the required steps within 48 hours. Once completed, background checks are valid for two years.

If you have questions about the background check process, or to verify your status, please contact Shira Rowland, MPS Human Resources, at shira.rowland@mpls.k12.mn.us 612-668-0500.

Please review MPS Volunteer Expectations.
