LHLC is in our new addition and going strong. I cannot thank the parents and community enough for advocating for this addition before I even joined this community.  Though all of your efforts,  the district listened and appropriated the money to make it happen.  The final completion date is October 1, 2013.  Meanwhile, the construction workers are not to work inside in any way that would disturb learning.

A few people were disturbed that one classroom has only one window, but it has skylights.  Actually there are four rooms in the building with no exterior windows:  music room, two resource rooms and my office.  I don’t think I could handle one more window in my office, however.

I want to thank PTA for all their financial support and manpower.  PTA co-planned the open house with me, took on the responsibility of the sign, block closing and the ice cream.  They also organized parents to help teachers with unpacking their boxes and setting up their rooms.  We are so fortunate to have parents so willing to help our teachers and school in general.

We have a few changes at the Lower Campus.

·       The school office has reduced office hours.  Our secretary will be here from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.  We are hopeful that she will be in her new location in the lobby by the end of the week.

·       Parents will come into the lobby to pick up their students.  Parents will sign out their student and will be reunited with the parent in the Commons.

·       Students my walk home from school if the parents send a note saying that you give permission for your child to walk home.

·       You must send a note with your child if his/her mode of transportation changes.  Students will be put on their assigned bus unless the teacher has a note stating otherwise.  Only in a rare emergency will the office be able to get a message to the teacher about a change.  We don’t change buses for play dates.

As always, stop in, call, or email with any concerns or suggestions you have to make this year the best for your child.
