CDD Update
Tuesday, December 15, 2020 5:05 AM

Given the global pandemic and distance learning, the Comprehensive District Design (CDD) might not be on the top of your mind. As a reminder, the CDD was designed by the Minneapolis Public Schools Board to ensure the needs of all student populations are met and that resources are assigned appropriately. In May 2020, the Board approved the CDD with changes scheduled for fall of 2021. The changes will impact schooling for thousands of MPS students, including our own community.

The LHCS Site Council has formed a new CDD Transition Team, whose purpose is to help make next year’s transitions as smooth as possible for our LHCS community. This includes answering as many questions as we can and providing opportunities for feedback and clarity.
Here is what we know thus far:
  • Lake Harriet Lower will become a K-2 school.
  • Lake Harriet Upper will become a 3-5 school.
  • The LHCS attendance area will have a new southern boundary (at Minnehaha Creek).
  • Most current 5th, 6th and 7th grade students will go to Anthony Middle School next year; middle school assignments are based on student home address.
  • There is a virtual open house for Anthony Middle School Thursday, December 10th from 5pm-6pm.
  • Most current 8th graders will go to Southwest High School next year; assignments are based on student home address.
  • The LHCS student population is planned to decrease (approximately 350 students per school).
  • LHCS bell times have shifted slightly to a 9:20AM start and a 3:50PM end.
  • New Magnet schools will become available for lottery application.

These changes may seem overwhelming, and the CDD Transition Team wishes to help. We would like everyone in our LHCS community to feel supported and heard to the best of our ability. Feel free to send an email to lhcs.cdd@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. We will keep in touch as the CDD plan continues to unfold.
