The Diversity Committee is looking for parents who are interested in being parent readers in the classroom for Grades K - 5. This volunteer activity involves reading a short story from the Families All Matter (FAM) children's literature library. FAM uses high quality literature to prepare children for our increasingly diverse world by addressing themes that include race/ethnicity, socioeconomics, aging, adoption, immigration, gay and lesbian family members, divorce/break-ups, religion, aging, and disability. FAM has been at LHCS for over 7 years and is supported by the Diversity Committee and the PTA. This activity involves attending one 2 hour training and reading in the classroom on 3 separate occasions. Anyone who has done this in the past can tell you what a rewarding and inspiring experience this as the kids really enjoy the books and the discussion. If you are interested, please contact Maree Hampton at mareemhampton@gmail.com
