Dear Friends and Families of the Lower Campus,

We have a lot going on at the Lower Campus this month.  Sometime in the next two weeks we will be taking our students on a tour of the new addition’s first floor.  They will be able to walk and see where the different rooms will be.  The construction will become even more real to the students.

February is Black History month.  As part of the celebration we are honoring February 11 as National African American Involvement Day.  It is an opportunity for all parents to visit the school and see what the students are doing.  Parents are invited to come to breakfast with their children.  A music program by the first and second grade students will also be held.   Here is the performance schedule:

9:50-10:00   1st Grade, Rooms 102 & 110

10:10-10:20 1st Grade, Rooms 108, 107 & 109

10:30-10:40 2nd Grade, Rooms 201 & 101

10:50-11:00 2nd Grade, Rooms 202, 203, & 204

February is also I Love to Read month and the Read-a-thon kick off assembly was held on January 31.  Students in K-5 have been challenged to read a total of 375,000 minutes.  Last year they read 374,000 minutes outside of school. Last year the students collected $22,000 in pledge money for the LHCS PTA. This year’s goal is $25,000.  The PTA uses this money to fund field trips and other enrichment opportunities.
