GISE/GEMS STEM Academy after school program

Registration is now open for the January through April Extended Learning GEMS-GISE STEM Academy. Families can select from a variety of standards based hands-on classes available to current K-8 MPS students. (Coding, Robotics, Biomedical, KoolFit-2four7, Invention Project and more!) 
 
Classes will be delivered live through distance-learning and begin on Monday, January 11th. All students will receive a STEM Academy Kit for each course to ensure an opportunity for engaging interactive learning experiences. Each course will be for two one-hour sessions per week. Students can take up to two different STEM Academy courses.
 
Below are some examples of the courses being offered:
 
Simple Machines and Mechanisms (Gr K-3)
Students investigate through engaging hands on activities Simple Machines and Mechanisms. Students learning: Simple machines make work easier. Simple machines have few or no moving parts. Simple machines and mechanisms change the direction of a force or the amount of force needed to do something.
 
Explore Robotics (Gr 4-5) 
Students will learn about mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. Students will use their computer to move, react, and make sounds with their mBot. They will then use their programming skills to solve design challenges. mBot and Mars Mat provided. Students will use web-based software along with their MPS issued Chromebook/Laptops.
