Announcing the participation of Mr. Devens’ 2nd grade class at Lake Harriet Community School in the twentieth annual Earth Day Groceries Project! The students decorated paper grocery bags donated by the Linden Hills Co-op with environmental messages. On Earth Day, April 22, these bags were used to bag customer’s groceries at the Co-op. Besides carrying an environmental message, each bag also has the name of our school, Lake Harriet Community School, and some wonderful artwork created by the students. The people in Linden Hills will get a very clear and positive message that the students at Lake Harriet Community School care about their environment. This project started with 43 schools reporting the decoration and distribution of 13,000 Earth Day Grocery Bags, this nonprofit, grassroots effort has grown into one of the largest and most well established educational projects on the Internet. In 1999, the number of schools reporting reached nearly 1,200, with students decorating almost 400,000 Earth Day Grocery Bags! Every report from all the previous years is on the project website. There are also thousands of pictures of schools from around the world involved in this project. A report from our school will be added to the website, so others will know about the efforts by our school. Please see the project website at: http://www.earthdaybags.org for complete information.
