Our PTA Membership Chair caught up with Micayla Dawson, new Instrumental Music teacher at Upper Campus, to welcome them to LHCS.

What subject/grade(s) do you teach? Instrumental Music for 5th-8th grade, and hopefully bringing back 4th grade next year!

How would you like students to address you? My students address me as Dawson and use the pronouns they/them.

Please share a little about yourself: I am from a military family (both of my parents and my brother), so I was born overseas, but I spent most of my life in Iowa! I went to the University of Northern Iowa and am currently attending the University of Nebraska – Kearney pursuing a Master’s in Music Education. I have been in Minnesota for 2 ½ years, and I love it here.

What do you love about teaching? What I love about teaching is the connections I make with students watching them grow as musicians.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests outside of the classroom? I learned how to cross stitch during quarantine and am in the process of making holiday gifts for my friends and family. I also enjoy cooking and baking.
