Recently, a video on social media has raised concerns about a student’s experience with racism in our school. We take allegations like that seriously, because every student in Lake Harriet deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. MPS is investigating a complaint related to that video and right now that is all the information we can provide due to data privacy laws that limit what can be shared.

We do want to acknowledge that creating a welcoming, affirming culture is part of our ongoing work at Lake Harriet, including addressing bias, racism and microaggressions throughout the school. Each of our students have inherent value, and race and ethnicity are important parts of who we are and how we experience the world. If you or your student aren’t experiencing that, please let us know. If you don’t feel comfortable coming to the school administration, you can also contact Mitchell Roldán, the MPS Ombudsperson, who is an advocate for families and resolving their concerns (mitchell.roldan@mpls.k12.mn.us, 612.668.0234).

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you for being part of our community.
