The Minneapolis Youth Chorus, a partnership between the Minnesota Chorale and the Minneapolis Public Schools, is accepting new singers for its tenth season, which begins this August. MYC seeks to enrich the lives of MPS students by providing them with opportunities to develop their musical gifts in an environment dedicated to the celebration of diversity and the pursuit of artistic excellence. The program is offered at no charge to participants: all costs are borne by the Minnesota Chorale.

In 2012, MYC and the Minnesota Chorale launched Prelude, a junior choir for singers in grades 3, 4 and 5. MYC singers are enrolled in grades 6 through 9.

Admission to both choruses takes place via annual voice checks. This year, voice checks for current 3rd through 7th graders will be held at Jefferson Community School on two Mondays, April 11 & 18: from 5:45 - 6:45 p.m. for Prelude singers (entering grades 3 – 5), and from 7 to 7:30 p.m. for MYC singers (entering grades 6 & 7), in the Jefferson School auditorium. No prepared song or reservation is necessary for the voice check. Students may simply arrive at Jefferson School with a parent or guardian.
